Reasearch Design Methods In conducting a research there is a lot of data collection methods that you can use , such as : surveys , depth - interviews , focus group discussions , observations , and so on . Selection of these methods depends on the research objectives and available resources . One of the widely used is the survey method . This method is commonly used for research in the field of social sciences . Indonesian Survey Institute ( LSI ) is one example of an organization that used to do the survey results of the general elections in Indonesia.

Given the discussion of the survey pretty much it will be me for a couple of topics , beginning with a survey to understand what it is , anytime we need to conduct a survey , we'll discuss how to make the questionnaire on the next material .

Survey Definition
Survey ( survey ) is a data collection method in research using a structured questionnaire aimed to obtain certain information from the sample . Structured questions here means the question has been prepared since the beginning formally in accordance with what is to be known by the researcher . The survey questions can be given orally ( called an interview ) , writing ( using questionnaires ) , via computer , fax or other form .

Then , whenever we use surveys ? To be able to answer that question , we need to know the advantages and disadvantages of survey methods , as will be described below.

Advantages and Weaknesses Survey
As a research method that is quite popular among academics and enterprises , the survey has three advantages . First , the survey is a way to collect data is the most flexible . Surveys can be used to investigate many things ranging from attitudes , consumer preferences , lifestyle by respondents . We can also use a variety of media to deliver questionnaires to the respondents , such as email and telephone . Secondly , the data obtained is more reliable . This is because the survey using a structured questionnaire so that the possibility of a more specific answer or according to which you really need. Third , limited questions used in the survey can help reduce variability in the data caused by the interviewer .

In addition to having three advantages , the survey also has a number of disadvantages . First , the survey is less suitable for measuring causality research object which is more suitable when using the experimental method . Second , respondents usually refuse to answer questions that are sensitive to them . Third , the survey takes a long time . This is because the process of making the survey questions and data processing surveys should be conducted as expeditiously as possible so that it runs long enough to spend time .
